I just want to take a moment to thank the wonderful credit card debt settlement company that I am currently enrolled with.  My husband, who is the wage earner of the family household, was laid off from work and unable to find a job for quite some time.  He finally got a job as an analyst for a government contractor and his salary was substantially less than his previous job.  With his reduced salary, we were unable to meet our prior financial obligations.  To complicate matters further, we could not file for bankruptcy because it would jeopardize his security clearance required for his new job.   We thought we had the answer when we decided to take out a loan against our home to pay the outstanding debts, however we did not have enough equity in our home to pay off all the outstanding debt in full.  Our debt settlement firm, was able to successfully negotiate settlements for less than the full balances with our creditors, which then allowed us be approved for our home loan allowing us to settle the outstanding debts.
