My little sister Gwen has been an elementary school teacher since graduating from Cal State Long Beach eight years ago. She’s a teacher in the Irvine unified school District and likes it a lot. Last week she called me up on the phone and asked me a favor. She teaches third grade and they were having a school-wide emergency preparedness week. She wanted me to come into the school and lead a Hurricane Discussion group. I had been a firefighter in the state of Florida for many years and have a lot of experience with hurricanes. She said she would make a nice dinner for my efforts.
