Plate tectonics is a geological theory which gained acceptance in the 1960’s. It proposes that the Earth’s crust is comprised of a number of mobile tectonic or lithospheric plates (Small, 1995). The lithosphere, the Earth’s outer shell, is cool enough to behave as a rigid shell. There are seven main rigid pieces called plates, these are; the African plate the Regcure review; the South American plate; the Eurasian plate; the Australian plate; the Antarctic plate and the Pacific plate, as well as several minor plates for example the Philippine plate and the Nazca plate. The boundary at which any two or more adjacent plates meet is known as a plate boundary
